Blue Jacket - 28764, Schooner, 99 tons Register, Built 1860, Aberystwyth

 

The Blue Jacket was built by Thomas Jones and launched towards the end of 1860. 

She had a long career, transfering ownership from Thomas Jones to John Rees of Aberystwyth by 1880 and changing port of registry to Caernarvon by 1890. She stayed on Register until 1915.

Some of her Captains and Mates included:
1862-63  Thomas Lewis (b.1823, Aberystwyth, cert. no. 43388) - Captain
1865-77  David Jones (b.1843, Aberaeron, cert. no. 31863) - Bosun, then Mate then Captain by 1868/69
1866       Evan Jones (b.1804, Aberaeron, cert. no. 71848) - Captain
1866-67  Evan Evans (b.1817, New Quay, cert. no. 70081) - Captain

The Blue Jacket was also recorded in the 1881 Census in port in Caernarvonshire with two crew members on board:
Evan Jones, unmarried, age 23 from Aberystwyth, Mate
Isaac Edwards, unmarried, age 17 also from Aberystwyth, Cook
